The effective way to improve the properties of WC Cemented Carbide is to reduce the grain size to the ultra-fine size of the alloy, even to the nanometer size. Nano WC Cemented Carbide is a kind of "double high" material which is both high toughness and high hardness which many material researchers are striving for. The key technology is the preparation of raw materials powder and sintering of alloy.
The tungsten carbide powder and tungsten powder are made into mixture, pressing block, sintering, mechanical crushing / screening classification in a certain proportion, which will become various specifications of sintered tungsten carbide powder. In practice, the fine grain cast tungsten carbide powder and cobalt are added into the mixture, then the agglomerate, sintering and mechanical crushing are made into sintered tungsten carbide. Most of w2cs in the sintered tungsten carbide react with cobalt to produce brittle M6C phase.
The sintered tungsten carbide is a tungsten carbide particle bonded with cobalt or nickel. Its Rockwell hardness is greater than 88 HRA. Compared with the cast tungsten carbide, the wear resistance is slightly lower than that of cast tungsten carbide, the bending strength is 1400MPa, and the impact resistance is greater than that of cast tungsten carbide.
